Bodh Gaya - Travelogue by Rogen Joseph
Affter completing my Jharkand visit i rushed to Railway station from Bokaro. My train to Gaya was waiting there. It's late night i reach Gaya and took a hotel room for sleep. Next day i proceed to Bodh Gaya., that is just 16 km away from Gaya in a Bus.
Now i'm standing in front of the entrance to Mahabodhi temple complex at Bodh Gaya in Gaya district of Bihar. The site is located about 130 kilometres away from Patna. The complex contains the Mahabodhi Temple with the diamond throne and the holy Bodhi tree under which Buddha gained enlightenment. Bodh Gaya is the most holy place for the followers of the Buddhist faith all over the world.
I put my chappels near entrance and enter inside Mahabodhi Temple. Mahabodhi Temle has a height of 55 metres which can be viewed from a distance of 10 km. Mahabodhi Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I also witness Bodhi Tree inside the Mahabodhi complex. It is believed that this tree is a direct descendant of the one under which the Buddha Sakyamuni attained enlightenment. This tree was originally a sapling of the Sri Maha Bodhi tree in Sri Lanka, itself grown from a sapling of the original Bodhi tree.
I exit from Mahabodhi Temple complex with an happy mind. Bodh Gaya has temples or monasteries from many other nations with a Buddhist tradition like Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, Japan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tibet.
Since these temples are located walkable distance away from Maha Bodhi Temple i enter maximum. Sadly permission was declined to some of them becuase of prayer time.
80-foot Buddha Statue is another major attraction in Bodh Gaya. I take few snaps as well.
I also visited Bodhgaya Multimedia Museum and Archaelogical Museum that are located closer to Mahabodhi Complex. Photography not allowded inside Archaelogical Museum.
Before concluding my Bodh Gaya visit i go for shopping and purchase few things including bags used by buddhist. I catch a bus to Gaya and affter vaccating hotel room in Gaya i proceed to Nalanda via Patna. My next destination is Nalanda in Bihar.
