Nainital - Travelogue by Rogen Joseph
It was around 10.30 pm in night i reach old delhi railway station. My train to Kathgodam is ready for departure. Train runs via Moradabar, Rampur and reach Kathgodam around 5 AM. Kathgodam is the nearest Railway station to Nainital. From Kathgodam i catch a bus to Nainital for the rest 35 km journey.
Nainital is a popular hill station in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and headquarters of Nainital district in the Kumaon foothills of the outer Himalayas. Plenty of homestay and resorts located here. Nainital is also a popular honeymoon destination in India.
Nainital get its name from Naini lake behind me which is a famous filim shooting location too. The lake is bounded by the high and steep Naina peak on the North West side, by the Tiffin Top to the south west side and snow view peaks on the north. Nainital lakes northern part is known as Mallital and southern part is Tallital.
I begin my trekking to China peak from Mallital, the Northern end of Nainital. It's a great pleasure for me to walk few km through road and rest 3 km forest path leading up to China Peak. Eventhough Taxi is available up to Tanke Band trekking by foot is a great experience for travel lovers. The highest point in Naina Peak or China Peak is at an elevation of 2,619 m. The view from the top is obviously beautiful with mighty 360 degree view of the Himalayas on one side, eagle view of Nainital Lake on the other side and Khurpatal Kaladungi region view on other side.
Above picture is taken sitting at the top of "China Peak". Distinct view of Himalayas is visible far away from here. I spend half an hour here. Down hill climb was very easy.
And for my readers, If you are interested in Swimming, Canoeing, Trekking, Paragliding etc. proceed to Bhimtal located 22km away. Bhimtal lake is bigger than Naini Lake. Four km from Bhimtal lies Nakuchiyatal, which means the lake with nine corners. Other tourist attractions in Nainital are Ramghar (famous for apples and peaches), Jeolikot (famous for floriculture and beekeeping). Mukteshwar lies 47 km away and Corbett National Park located 66 km away from Nainital.
Affter completing my excursion i catch a bus to Kathagodam. Some passangers in bus vomit while bus climbs downhill. Anyway i sat in side seat of bus enjoyining the beauty of outer himalayas. From Kathagodam i catch a train to Dheradun, capital of Uttarakhand
