My Journey to Yercaud - Rogen Joseph
We reach Yercaud from Salem affter climbing 19 hair pin bends. All people in my gang expect me are first time to Yercaud. Few days before Newyear it was a tourist season but we get a room in Yercaud without difficulty. Plenty of homestays and lodges are located in Yercaud. Most people are visiting here to stay a day or more in Yercaud. Yercaud is called "poor man's ooty" becuase of avalibility of rooms at reasonable price. Affter checkin at one of the hotels we all proceed to yercaud town.
Yercaud Lake is a major attraction for tourists. Boating is also available in Yercaud Lake.
Yercaud has nothing to offer except nature. Coffee and oranges are grown in abundance. Botanical garden is situated at the Nagalur, 2 km from Yercaud town. Other attraction in Yercaud are Killiyur Falls, Lady's Seat, Bear's Cave & Servaroyan Temple. It shouldn’t take more that 3 hours to see all of them.
Some of us walk around the lake and road side shops. Affter half an hour mist arrived. Before getting darker we return backs to our hotel room.
Next day affter break fast we proceed to some view points like Pagoda Point and Karadiyur Viewpoint. Yercaud is located in Shevaroys range of hills in the Eastern Ghats. Since climate was goood we are lucky to enjoy wonderful sight seeing from these places. .
And for my readers, If you are travelling in bus you will get direct bus to Yercaud from Salem depot. Don't expect too much tourist attraction from Yercaud in comparison with Ooty or Kodaikanal. Anyway staying a night here will give a refreshment for your mind. You will enjoy climate too.
We say bye to Yercaud and proceed to our next destination that is Kolli hills in Nammakal district, Tamilnadu.
